Volatilization
The Henry's Law constant for indole is estimated as 5.3X10-7 atm-cu m/mole(SRC) from its experimental values for vapor pressure, 0.0122 mm Hg(1), and water solubility, 3560 mg/l(2). This value indicates that indole will be essentially nonvolatile from water surfaces(3,SRC). Indole's Henry's Law constant(1,2,SRC) indicates that volatilization from moist soil surfaces should not occur(SRC).

Soil Adsorption
A Koc of 187 was measured for indole on a synthetic soil consisting of 88-90% sand, 10% clay and 0-2% humic acid(1). The Koc of indole is estimated as approximately 350(SRC), using a measured log Kow of 2.14(2) and a regression-derived equation(3,SRC). According to a recommended classification scheme(4), these Koc values suggest that indole has moderate mobility in soil(SRC).

Volatilization
The Henry's Law constant for 2-undecanone is 6.36X10-5 atm-cu m/mole(1). This Henry's Law constant indicates that 2-undecanone is expected to volatilize from water surfaces(2). Based on this Henry's Law constant, the volatilization half-life from a model river (1 m deep, flowing 1 m/sec, wind velocity of 3 m/sec)(2) is estimated as 13 hours(SRC). The volatilization half-life from a model lake (1 m deep, flowing 0.05 m/sec, wind velocity of 0.5 m/sec)(2) is estimated as 11 days(SRC). 2-Undecanone's Henry's Law constant indicates that volatilization from moist soil surfaces may occur(SRC). 2-Undecanone is not expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon a vapor pressure of 4.1X10-2 mm Hg(3).

Solubility
Insoluble in water. Soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform.

Soil Adsorption
Using a structure estimation method based on molecular connectivity indices(1), the Koc of 2-undecanone can be estimated to be 278(SRC). According to a classification scheme(2), this estimated Koc value suggests that 2-undecanone is expected to have moderate mobility in soil.

Volatilization
The Henry's Law constant for 1-dodecanol is reported as 5.19X10-5 atm-cu m/mole(1). This Henry's Law constant indicates that 1-dodecanol is expected to volatilize from water surfaces(2). Based on this Henry's Law constant, the volatilization half-life from a model river (1 m deep, flowing 1 m/sec, wind velocity of 3 m/sec)(2) is estimated as 27 hours(SRC). The volatilization half-life from a model lake (1 m deep, flowing 0.05 m/sec, wind velocity of 0.5 m/sec)(2) is estimated as 12 days(SRC). However, volatilization from water surfaces is expected to be attenuated by adsorption to suspended solids and sediment in the water column. The volatilization half-life from a model pond is about 11 months when adsorption is considered(3). 1-Dodecanol's Henry's Law constant indicates that volatilization from moist soil surfaces may occur(SRC). 1-Dodecanol is not expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based upon a vapor pressure of 8.48X10-4 mm Hg(4).

Soil Adsorption
Koc values of 2042-3388 were reported for 1-dodecanol in humic acid(1). According to a classification scheme(2), this Koc range suggests that 1-dodecanol is expected to have slight mobility in soil. Koc values of 2570-6574, 2337-11,184, 7700 and 16,700-17,981 were reported for 1-dodecanol in activated sludge, sediment, suspended solids and suspended solids with activated sludge, respectively(1).

Volatilization
The Henry's Law constant for isovaleric acid was measured as 8.33X10-7 atm-cu m/mole(1). This value indicates that isovaleric acid will volatilize slowly from water surfaces(2,SRC). Based on this Henry's Law constant, the estimated volatilization half-life from a model river (1 m deep, flowing 1 m/sec, wind velocity of 3 m/sec) is estimated as approximately 45 days(2,SRC). The estimated volatilization half-life from a model lake (1 m deep, flowing 0.05 m/sec, wind velocity of 0.5 m/sec) is estimated as approximately 330 days(2,SRC). In addition, a pKa of 4.78 for isovaleric acid(3) indicates that isovaleric acid will not significantly volatilize from water as it will exist predominately in the ionic form under environmental pHs(SRC). Isovaleric acid's Henry's Law constant(1) indicates that volatilization from moist soil surfaces may occur(SRC). Isovaleric acid is not expected to volatilize from dry soil surfaces(SRC) based on a measured vapor pressure of 0.44 mm Hg(4).

Soil Adsorption
The Koc of isovaleric acid is estimated as approximately 100(SRC), using a measured log Kow of 1.16(1) and a regression-derived equation(2,SRC). According to a recommended classification scheme(3), this estimated Koc value suggests that isovaleric acid is expected to have high mobility in soil(SRC).

FungiTrichoderma Aureoviride IMI 91968low nutrient media (containing phenylalanin)T. aureoviride was cultured on low nutrient media (LNM) containing phenylalanine. LNM had a carbon:nitrogen ratio similar to that typically found in wood. The cultures were covered and incubated for 7 days at 25°C.
